E.L. Bost and C.W. Bost opened the first What-A-Burger in 1956 in Concord NC, it was incorporated in 1956. The 11th location was opened in Mooresville, in 1965, and remains an old-fashioned drive-in with curb service. Sam Ingram was the first manager. Sam also operated the Townhouse Restaurant in the lower part of the building. He had owned a restaurant by the same name on the site before What-A-Burger was built. From 1969 to 2008 Robert Fesperman was the manager, then Mary Fesperman until 2016.
