in 1899, D.E. Turner Sr. purchased Tomlinson & Co., a hardware firm, located on Main Street in Mooresville, North Carolina. In 1902, a new building was constructed, also on North Main Street, across from the Mooresville train dept. Costing $3000, the building shared space with the First National Bank. The ornament is based on a 1910 photograph. Mr. Turner is the third person from the left leaning against a gas pump, the first in Mooresville. D.E. Turner Hardware is still open today, making it the oldest continuously operating business in Mooresville.
