E.L. Bost and C.W. Bost opened the first What-A-Burger in 1956 in Concord NC, it was incorporated in 1956. The 11th location was opened in Mooresville, in 1965, and remains an old-fashioned drive-in with curb service. Sam Ingram was the first manager. Sam also operated the Townhouse Restaurant in the lower part of the building. He had owned a restaurant by the same name on the site before What-A-Burger was built. From 1969 to 2008 Robert Fesperman was the manager, then Mary Fesperman until 2016. Local memories include driving around the building as part of the Main Street cruising in the ’60s and Sam serving the Mooresville High School football team after home games cherry lemon Sundrops and Witchdoctors.
